As Muslim faithful across Lagos and beyond prepare to celebrate Eid el-Fitri, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended warm felicitations, urging adherence to orderliness, discipline, and civic responsibility during and after the festive period.
In a goodwill message, released by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA,Adebayo Taofiq,Bakare-Oki commended the Muslim Ummah for their devotion, sacrifice, and steadfastness throughout the holy month of Ramadan, noting that the virtues of patience, self-restraint, and obedience should continue to guide their daily conduct, especially on the roads.
He emphasized the need for all road users to maintain order and respect traffic regulations, stressing that safety remains a collective responsibility.
While congratulating Muslims on the successful completion of the fast, the LASTMA boss reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Lagos roads, disclosing that comprehensive measures have been put in place to guarantee smooth traffic flow throughout the celebration.
Bakare-Oki warned motorists, commercial drivers, and other road users against reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorized off-loading, and driving against traffic, stating that such infractions would not be tolerated.
“Eid is a period of joy and celebration, but it must also be marked with a high sense of responsibility. We urge all road users to comply strictly with traffic laws to ensure safety and avoid unnecessary congestion,” he said.
He further revealed that LASTMA personnel have been strategically deployed to critical areas, including major highways, busy junctions, and locations expected to witness increased socio-religious activities, to effectively manage traffic and respond promptly to incidents.
According to him, the Authority will maintain round-the-clock traffic monitoring and control operations in collaboration with other security and emergency agencies to ensure a safe, orderly, and hitch-free celebration.
Bakare-Oki also appealed to residents and visitors to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient, and support efforts aimed at maintaining a seamless transportation system.
“As we celebrate with our Muslim brothers and sisters, we call on everyone to prioritize safety, respect constituted authority, and contribute to a peaceful and congestion-free Lagos,” he added.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority reiterated its commitment to delivering efficient traffic management services, particularly during peak and festive periods, in line with its mandate of ensuring a safer and more organized road network across the State.
