A Lagos-based businessman and presidential aspirant in the forthcoming Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos election, Emma Ubah (Otumba Ojoto), has appeared before the Truth and Reconciliation Committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to present his position on the ongoing consultations ahead of the election.
During his appearance, Ubah stated that he has the capacity to unite members of Ohanaeze and the wider Igbo community in Lagos, noting that he understands the areas of disagreement and the need for reconciliation.
He disclosed that he has been an active member of Ohanaeze in Ota–Awori LCDA and was part of the delegation that attended the 2018 inauguration of former Ohanaeze Lagos President, Solomon Ogbonna.
Ubah, who hails from Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, said he had duly consulted his community and received their blessings before declaring his intention to contest.
He also acknowledged informing his kinsman, Leo Okafor, about his aspiration, adding that he was unaware that Okafor also intended to contest the same position.
While noting that the Ohanaeze Lagos bye-law does not provide for rotational leadership, Ubah said he would willingly step aside if the National Executive Committee and the general membership reach a consensus to allow other states yet to produce the president the opportunity.
He also dismissed allegations of financial inducement, describing them as false and stating that his consultations have followed Igbo tradition, involving only the presentation of water and kola nuts.
Ubah pledged to work towards restoring Ohanaeze to its glory and strengthening its statutes to prevent future crises.
The committee clarified that the submissions made represent Ubah’s personal views and should not be taken as the position of the committee.
The public has been advised to await the committee’s final report and recommendations.
