The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is being used to target opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a release signed by the Lagos APC Spokesperson,Hon Mogaji Seye Oladejo
described Atiku’s claims as “baseless” and “misleading,” stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to upholding the rule of law and due process.

He emphasized the EFCC’s independence in investigating and prosecuting financial crimes, regardless of political affiliations while advising Atiku to focus on clearing his own public record, citing demands for accountability from past leaders.

“The attention of the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to a recent statement credited to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, wherein he alleged that the Presidency is using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to crush opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

“We find this claim not only unfortunate but also a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, distort facts, and malign the integrity of our national institutions for cheap political gain.”

“Let it be stated unequivocally that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to upholding the rule of law, due process, and the independence of all anti-graft agencies, including the EFCC.”

“The APC has no hand in the operations of the EFCC, which continues to act within its legal mandate to investigate and prosecute financial crimes irrespective of political affiliations.” he said.

Investigator news reports that Atiku Abubakar recently alleged that the Tinubu-led administration is using the EFCC as a tool to intimidate and coerce opposition leaders, citing the detention of former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as an example.

“It is particularly disturbing that a former Vice President who once claimed to be a champion of anti-corruption is now attacking the very institutions that are working to sanitize Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.”

“The EFCC is not a political tool; it is a statutory body empowered to act on credible intelligence and evidence. Those who have nothing to hide should have no reason to fear.”

“Rather than peddle unfounded conspiracy theories, we advise Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to focus on clearing the many unanswered questions surrounding his own public record, especially as Nigerians continue to demand accountability from past leaders.”he submitted.

The party expressed confidence in its governance and development initiatives under President Tinubu, stating that it doesn’t require underhanded tactics to win elections,as the party questioned Atiku’s motivations, suggesting that his allegations stem from repeated electoral defeats and a desire for relevance through sensationalism.

“Let it be known that the APC is not intimidated by the opposition, nor does it require underhanded tactics to win elections.”

“Our party continues to enjoy the confidence of the Nigerian people through purposeful governance, infrastructural development, and social investment under President Tinubu.”

“In a democratic setting, law enforcement agencies must be allowed to do their jobs without interference or blackmail.”

“Atiku’s outburst is an unfortunate reflection of a politician still reeling from repeated electoral defeats and seeking relevance through sensationalism.”

” The party therefore urge Nigerians to ignore this baseless allegation and continue to support the ongoing efforts to build a safer, more prosperous, and corruption-free nation.”he reaffirmed
