A tragic accident occurred earlier today at Egbe Bridge, inward Ikotun, involving a Toyota Venza with (registration number GWA 659 RD) and a commercial tricycle, locally referred to as a “Marwa” (registration number EPE 245 QM).
The collision resulted in the instantaneous death of the tricycle operator and left two passengers gravely injured with multiple fractures.
According to LASTMA, preliminary findings indicate that the Toyota Venza’s driver attempted to overtake another vehicle atop the bridge, careening into the path of the oncoming tricycle.
The driver absconded from the scene, and law enforcement authorities have commenced a manhunt to apprehend him.
Swiftly mobilising to the scene, LASTMA personnel orchestrated a meticulous extrication of the injured from the crumpled wreckage, after which officers from the Ikotun Police Division expedited their transfer to the General Hospital, Isolo, for immediate medical intervention.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise vigilance, particularly when overtaking on elevated thoroughfares and bridge crests.
Reaffirming the Authority’s unwavering dedication to road safety, Mr. Bakare-Oki enjoined all motorists to exercise scrupulous vigilance and ascertain that the roadway is unequivocally clear before attempting overtaking manoeuvres particularly on elevated thoroughfares and bridge crests, where visibility and vehicular control are inherently diminished.
“This heartrending incident serves as a grim testament to the lethal consequences of impatience and the blatant flouting of traffic laws,” Mr. Bakare-Oki stated.
