Stakeholders have praised the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for conducting peaceful local government council polls in Lagos State.
The polls, which held on July 12, 2025, saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) sweep all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 Councilorship positions.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended Lagos residents for maintaining order and participating in the polls, describing it as a testament to the strength of democracy in the state. He also appreciated security personnel, media professionals, and LASIEC officials for ensuring a safe, orderly, and credible electoral process.
LASIEC’s chairman, Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, had earlier assured stakeholders of the commission’s commitment to free, fair, and credible elections. Despite some opposition parties alleging irregularities and planning to protest, the commission remained resolute in its pursuit of transparency and fairness.
The peaceful conduct of the election was notable, with security personnel deployed to maintain law and order across the state’s 13,325 polling units. While opposition parties have raised concerns over the legitimacy of the polls due to low voter turnout and alleged electoral malpractices, LASIEC’s efforts to uphold electoral integrity have been acknowledged.
Speaking with newsmen Honourable Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration and representative of Kosofe Constituency 01,has commended the good people of Kosofe and Lagos at large for their peaceful participation in the election process, highlighting the exercise as a model of political maturity and civic responsibility.
He applauded LASIEC for proper organization, despite some hiccups.“The peaceful, transparent, and orderly conduct of this election speaks volumes about the strength of our democracy and the readiness of our people to embrace stability, unity, and sustainable development,”
” The Local Government Election is the most Important.Its has direct contact and dealings with the grassroot. Citizens Must know that you dont take Local Government Election with Levity.its must be taken seriously”he said
Okanlawon went further to congratulate Barrister Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe (Kosofe LG),Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada (Ikosi-Isheri LCDA),Hon. (Mrs.) Adetola Adunni Abubakar (Agboyi-Ketu LCDA),and all elected and re-elected Councillors across Larger Kosofe on their victories at the Saturday’s Local Government Elections.
Describing the sweeping victories as a firm reaffirmation of the people’s trust in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Okanlawon noted that the outcome of the polls represents a strong mandate for continuity, tested leadership, and grassroots-focused governance.
“This landslide victory is not just a celebration of electoral success; it is a powerful validation of the APC’s people-oriented policies, responsive leadership, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of our constituents,” Okanlawon stated.
Hon. Okanlawon reaffirmed his commitment to working collaboratively with all newly elected officials to deepen democratic gains and accelerate the delivery of impactful governance.
He pledged to continue advancing legislative initiatives that will support local development, empower communities, and uphold the mandate given by the people.
The Director General of Hon Oladunjoye Bola,Dr Oluwaseun Akakolu expressed gratitude to voters who have taken our their time to vote despite the funny weather which wasnt predictable, stating that things went smoothly.
He opined that if Hon Oladunjoye Bola emerged as the Chairman of the LCDA,everyone in the community should expect the best administrative performance in all areas.
Also, the APC Assistant State Secretary, Mrs Jumoke Animaun after exercising her civil duty she said that grassroot election should be given the utmost Priority, noting that Its the local government that brings the government closer to the people.
Mrs Animaun went further to appeal to the people of Lagos State to be patient with the present administration of President Tinubu and that of the Governor,Mr Sanwo-Olu, saying that the government is trying their best in the growth and development of the society as it is ensuring that dividends of democracy gets to every nook and cranny of the local government.
She added,”Our Candidate in Kosofe Local Government is the ideal man for the job. She says, He is popularly called “Mr Project”.
” He has done so much in his last administration.I believe that when he is been re-elected and resumed back into office for second term,more projects that will be done.”she stated.
The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government,Hon Moyosore Ogunlewe who was seeking for second tenure performed his civic duty as he cast his votes at His polling unit,Ogudu Grammar school Polling unit,Ogudu Gra, Ogudu, Lagos state.
He thanked everyone for the love shown to him in his previous administration and he made sure that he did not disapppoint them.
Moyo who was assured that the people would vote him again following his antecedents and projects executed during his first tenure
He says”I am here to serve my People. I have their love,care at heart. I am willing to do More immediately i assume into the office for second term. He says all Projects yet to be completed will be done, he will touch all areas,yet untouched in the community and everyone should watch out for a new and developed Kosofe Local Government Area.
Speaking also with newsmen HRM Oba Nojimu Fashola,Oba Of Ogudu encouraged everyone to come out and vote, be responsible citizens if they want growth and development in the Community, while describing the exercise as peaceful.
“Grassroot Election is the Most important Election,this is because,its the government closer to the people, and I want to commend LASIEC for doing a great job”he stated
