The Labour Party, under the leadership of Acting National Chairman Nenadi Usman, has thrown its weight behind its 2023 Presidential Candidate,Peter Obi’s decision to join an opposition coalition led by David Mark.
In a statement on Thursday 3, July 2025,Usman dismissed a group within the party led by Julius Abure as “political jesters with no legitimate standing in Labour Party,” citing their suspension and sacking by the Supreme Court.
Usman who spoke through her aide Ken Asogwa stated that the party has given its full backing to Obi’s participation in coalition talks aimed at creating a robust political alternative to rescue Nigeria from the APC’s misrule.

She noted that Abure and his cohorts giving Obi 48hrs to resign are neither recognized by the party nor the law, having been sacked and suspended for serial acts of indiscipline and anti-party activities.
She explained that the party had given its blessings to Obi to participate in the coalition talks.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership of the Labour Party, on May 26, 2025, publicly declared its full support for Mr. Obi’s involvement in the coalition efforts aimed at creating a robust political alternative to rescue Nigeria from the disastrous misrule of the APC. That position has not changed.
“We wish to reaffirm that Mr. Peter Obi’s participation in the coalition activities, including the ADC unveiling, was done with the full knowledge, approval, and support of the Labour Party leadership.
“It is the remnants of the disorder and mess left behind by these impostors that the current leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman continues to clean.
Therefore, members of the public, and especially the media, are urged to disregard the distractions and mischief from these discredited elements.”the acting chairman stated.
