The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has denied allegations of unjustly disqualifying People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates from participating in the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for July 12, 2025.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), LASIEC described the claims as “false and a misrepresentation of facts”.

According to LASIEC, the validation exercise for candidates commenced on June 26, 2025, in line with the election timetable and guidelines released in April.

The commission stated that some PDP candidates failed to submit required documents due to “errors of omission” but were advised to take advantage of a supplementary window on July 2-3, 2025.

However, LASIEC claimed that the affected candidates showed up prematurely on June 30, mobilized a large crowd, and disrupted the peaceful conduct of the process.

This forced the postponement of the exercise for other political parties to July 1.

Reaffirming its neutrality and dedication to a credible electoral process, LASIEC assured Lagosians and stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent election on July 12.

“Your voice, your vote, our mandate!” the statement concluded.

Investigator news reports that this development comes amid allegations of bias and partisanship against LASIEC from other political parties, including the Labour Party, which accused the commission of working in favor of the ruling APC.
