Somolu residents are increasingly frustrated by rising rent prices in areas under development, prompting Executive Chairman Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ to take action.
The concerns were highlighted when ‘X’ user Ayomide Oloyede (@Jagaban_fadeyi) posted, “Come and remove your interlock in Fadeyi oh! Local Government do road, landlords increase rent.”
This plea resonated with many who fear that much-needed infrastructure improvements might lead to unaffordable living conditions.
The Executive Chairman swiftly addressed these concerns, urging landlords to avoid imposing financial burdens on tenants, especially in areas where his administration is upgrading streets with interlocking stones.
Hon. Salawu stressed that the ongoing developments aim to enhance residents’ quality of life, not to push them out of their homes. He assured the community that, like other areas, Fadeyi would soon benefit from solar-powered streetlights upon the project’s completion.
In response to the situation, Hon. Salawu has engaged the Community Development Associations and the Alhaji Tajudeen Tella-led Community Development Committee to monitor and address rent increases.
He condemned the act of exploiting tenants as inhumane but affirmed that these challenges would not deter his commitment to Somolu’s development.
The Chairman reiterated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is dedicated to ensuring all Lagosians live comfortably within their means.
