The Bariga Local Government Council Chairman,Hon Alabi Kolade David has provided N50,000 each to vulnerable households,the elderly and other individuals to support them in mitigating the impact of economic hardship in the country

The event which took place at the the New Bariga Local Council Multi-Purpose Hall was attended by 520 beneficiaries selected across the 8 Wards of Bariga devoid of any political, religious, or tribal biases by the committee led by Mr. Segun Adesanya on Thursday 5, September, 2024 ,as the individuals received the cash gifts through an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card provided by the event partners, Providus Bank.
In his address, Chairman Alabi reiterated the importance of addressing the hunger and financial struggles faced by the people, stating that governance is more than building bridges, roads, and schools. He emphasized the need to ensure that the people are not hungry and promised that the current hardships would soon subside.
Hon Alabi, went further to emphasize that it is the government’s responsibility to improve the living conditions of its citizens, which was the main purpose of the event, stating that the initiative was launched to alleviate the hardships caused by the increase in fuel price and commodity costs.
He said: “What we are all here to witness today is the fulfillment of one of our social responsibilities to improve the living conditions of our people, as a responsive and responsible government.
“Within the last one year, we have witnessed the removal of fuel subsidy which has caused the increase in social commodities, and as a result of that we felt that some of our people with the small scale business need something to boost their business, so we came up with this initiative to give our people 50,000 naira so they can add to their business and we believe it will boost their business,this is the 3rd phase of this project and we will not redt until our people feel the impact of democracy
Hon Alabi who is the Conference 57 Chairman urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the cash provided and to ensure that they contribute their quota in developing Bariga local government area of Lagos state.
“I want to all those who are not beneficiaries today, that sooner or later, they would be able to partake in the dividends of democracy as the local government is doing its best to ensure that Bariga is being emulated by other local government.Go across the wards of this local government today, a lot of infrastructure work is ongoing and we want the tempo to continue like that, as we see their commitments, we will continue to give the best to our people”, he said.
The APC Chairman of Bariga, Hon. Akin Mejolagbe, lauded the Chairman for putting Bariga Local Council on the world map, while appealing to the people of Bariga to always rally support to the Executive chairman so as to embark on more laudable projects.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity and urge those who are not beneficiaries to have faith in God.
Speaking to newsmen,Hon Olowo Rotimi Emmanuel commended the council boss for impacting into the lives of the people by ensuring that the welfare and security of the people is his top priority.
Hon Olowo who was the honourable member at the Lagos State House of Assembly,2007-2023 opined that the essence of governance is for the welfare and security of the people, noting that Hon Alabi has just won the peoples heart by giving them succour and empowering them financially while thanking Alabi for his innovative approach to governance and his dedication to the welfare of the people.
The former House committee chairman on Budget and Economic planning appeal to all the beneficiaries to make proper planning with the money giving to them so that in few years to come,it will yield profit.
“Hon. Alabi has reiterated his commitment with respect to renewing the hope of the masses by putting smiles on their faces until every household benefit from this intervention programme. His commitment to better the lives of his people is matchless.”he stated
While appealing to all other chairman in the local government to take a cue from Hon Alabi and replicate ot in their various local government as it will go a long in assisting and alleviating the suffering of the people in the state, thereby reducing the burden placed on the State and Federal government respectively.
Lending his voice,Hon Sesan Olanrewanju Chairman Lagos State mineral resources stated that the project is highly commendable as this is not the first time,Hon Alabi is doing such program.
Hon Olanrewanju who was the former Council boss Somolu/Bariga local government, noted that the program would help in alleviating the suffering of the masses, while advising Hon Alabi to continue with the good work he has been doing.
” I want to sincerely commend the Executive chairman,Hon Alabi Kolade David for this project, this is the 3rd phase of the program, aside the fact that he is doing this,he has done a lot in terms of infrastructure,road network, improvement of health facilities,education and poverty alleviation.”he stated.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the money giving to them to invest in their business, because tomorrow another set of people would also benefit in this dividends of democracy.
Speaking with one of the cash award beneficiaries, Dauda Yemisi, expressed her gratitude for the chairman’s initiative, noting that the support arrived at a crucial time for her.
“I really thank the chairman, Hon Alabi Kolade David for this initiative, may God bless him and his council members, I am a trader and I truly need this money to grow my business, the price of everything has gone up, even what we sell, there is no much profit on it, but at least with this money, I can support my business and expect more profit.”
Other beneficiaries of the cash award from the 8 ward in the local government left the event with hearts full of joy and gratitude, offering prayers and expressing their appreciation to the local government for the well-designed initiative.
In another development,the Council boss,Hon Alabi Kolade David appreciated and empowered 20 APC Party faithfuls singers who campaigned and supported the party at all levels with the sum of Two hundred thousand Naira each and some of them were offered shops in Bariga Market.The beneficiaries were selected from different ward to appreciate them for their unalloyed support and loyalty to the party.
Hon Alabi said,” l and my party leaders that are with me here today decided to appreciate you all for your efforts, contributions towards our party APC,l made the selection together with all the leaders and today we will be appreciating you all with the sum of N200,000 and some of you would be lucky winners of a shop at the Bariga market”
” Some of you were insulted, humiliated and called all sorts of names but today you are going to reap the fruit of your labor,to some who might not be getting the shops,do not feel bad as there are 10 other shops in place, just keep up the good work and continue to support the party, the governor and our National leader and President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu”he submitted
The event was a success, showcasing the commitment of Chairman Alabi to the well-being of the people of Bariga.

Osijo, Baale of Obanikoro, Chief Kabiru Buraimoh, Bariga Council Manager, Mrs Abiodun Balogun, HODs, APC Ward Chairmen, Women Leaders, Youth Leaders and Chairman’s retinues of Aides.
Highlight of the event was the raffle draw for the five lucky winners of the shop at Bariga market. At the end of the exercise, the following women emerged winners,they include;Mrs Shola Shobowale,Mrs Rebecca Williams,Mrs Fumilayo Bombay,Mrs Olajuwon Grace and Mrs Akewu Shola.
