Rotary Club lnternational Honours Rt Hon Engr Johnson Duru With An Award.

Eminent lawmaker and Member Representing Ideato South State Constituency in the Imo State House Of Assembly, Rt Hon Engr Johnson Iheonukara Duru was last Sunday, 21st of July 2024, honoured with a Distinguished Humanitarian Award of Excellence by the Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown.
The event which took place at the popular Greatwood Hotel Owerri, Imo State, was part of activities to mark the Club’s Installation of her 2nd President, Rotarian Oscar Tochi Akanno.
Other activities at the event which attracted many personalities included : Launching of new service projects, Inauguration of Board of Directors, Induction of New Members and Presentation of Awards to other people.
The President of Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, Rotarian Oscar Tochi Akanno, explained that the vibrant legislator has done a lot to assist humanity in so many areas of life endeavours, including ;Using his position as a lawmaker to sponsor many People-Oriented Bills and Motions that have positively assisted the common man,attracting projects to his Ideato South Constituency, which have made life more meaningful to his constituents,drawing the attention of Government to the effects of Erosion in the State, which depicts him as one who loves humanity,providing Job Opportunities for many young people, both as a popular businessman and as a lawmaker, which depicts him a Man who is in the forefront to liberate the society from the pangs of unemployment and providing succour to humanity and generally uplifting the less privileged in the society, through positive actions.
According to the President of Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, *”We have been following your activities, both as a lawmaker and as a businessman, and we are truly impressed with your unwavering commitment to serve humanity, which have continued to make significant impact in your community. We are therefore happy to bestow on you this Award, to further encourage you to do more for humanity”.* He further stated that the Awards were given only to people who have exemplified themselves in their service to humanity
Responding, Rt Hon Engr Johnson Duru, popularly known as Pajay, expressed his appreciation to Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, for recognizing his little contribution to the growth of the society, pledging, *”I am now further energized to do more. This Award coming from Rotary Club has already spurred me into further humanitarian services. This Award shows that I am being watched, and my little contribution to uplift humanity is being recognized”.*
Hon Johnson Duru, who has carved a niche for himself as a humble and noiseless lawmaker, commended other Awardees at the event, while at the same time commending Rotary Club for supporting government in the fight against cholera and other water borne diseases.
With the outstanding Award of Humanitarian Excellence, Hon Johnson Duru is a Bonafide Grand Member of Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown.
