LGA Autonomy:Gov. Alia Grants Financial Autonomy to LGA
….as he appoints Rev Father as Provost College of Education.

Benue State Governor Alia Hyacinth Alia has granted full financial autonomy to all 23 local governments in the state.
Gov Alia, while disclosing this on Tuesday at the opening of a two-day workshop organised by the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in conjunction with Timarage Nigeria Limited, for Chairman and members of the local government interim executives in the state, stated that his administration had mapped out strategic projects and programmes for the execution and implementation in all the local government areas of the state.
He said “I am happy to state that my administration has given its full blessing to the autonomy of our local governments and funds meant for each local governments will be prompt. We are, therefore, committed to the growth and development of the system and have outlined adequate plans to open up the rural areas to enable rural economies to thrive,by the time the projects and programmes are completed, our rural areas in the state would completely wear a new look.

The Governor, therefore appealed to all the LG committees to intensify efforts towards increasing their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to boost their capacity to provide for the welfare of their people while urging them to ensure they remained close to their people and also to uphold accountability, integrity and transparency in their work.

In another development the Governor appointed Very Rev. Fr. Sylvester Onmoke as the Provost College of Education Oju, Benue State.
Until his appointment, Fr Onmoke was lecturer in the school and once served as chaplain of institution.
Gov. Alia urged Fr Sylvester to make good use of this opportunity by transforming the College of Education into a real citadel of learning and a reference point to other higher institutions in the state and Nigeria as a whole. The appointment is with immediate effect.
