Residents of Lekki Phase 1 have spoken out against the Lagos government’s plans to build a ferry terminal in the neighbourhood.
Yomi Idowu, chairman of the Lekki Residents Association (LERA), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that authorities have yet to notify them.
Idowu emphasised that Lekki Phase 1 was already congested and had a large number of private jetties.
While the project is admirable, he believes the location should be considered so that traffic problems are not exacerbated.
“It’s commendable because it will serve the entire axis, all the way up to Victoria Garden City.” However, it does not have to be in Lekki Phase 1, which is already congested,” he added.
LERA however assured that it was willing to suggest locations that would be suitable for the project.
Lekki Estate Ferry Terminal Ltd. on August 19 announced that the construction would begin in September.
The terminal, owned by Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, would be sited on Admiralty Way waterfront.
It would service the residents of Lekki, Ajah, Igbo Efon, Ikota, Awoyaya, Lakowe, Sangotedo, and environs.
