Agba Jalingo, a Cross River activist, reported on Friday that police had surrounded his residence in Lagos State.

The activist claimed that police held his wife and daughter hostage on the floor of his home in a series of Facebook posts.

“I’m not sure who sent the cops, but they’ve taken my wife and daughter hostage downstairs.” I’m not feeling safe. “Those are their faces,” he wrote, alongside a photo of some men in mufti at the gate.
“Police officers are still stationed around my Lagos home.” I’m still not sure what brought them here. My wife and daughter are being held as hostages.

Jalingo alleged that the policemen were sent from Abuja, adding that they were allegedly sent by the Franko Ayade, the brother to the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade.
“I have information that the police were sent from Abuja and the command CP is aware. I don’t know what I have done again but I am afraid for my life.

“They are sent by Franko Ayade. They are trying to force their way in right now,” the Publisher of Crossriverwatch posted.

In 2019, the journalist was arrested following an allegation of treason by the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade.

Jalingo was first arrested by the Police in August 2019. He was subsequently arraigned for treason and attempting to overthrow the state government due to highly critical articles he published.

Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Friday, proved abortive as of the time of filing this report, as text sent to his known line had yet to be responded to, and calls to his line were not going through.
