In order to ensure that his children receive the proper education, President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he will not be leaving anything for them to inherit.
In a statement, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu said that Buhari made the remarks on Wednesday while paying respects at the residence of Umar Faruk, Emir of Daura, in Katsina state.
The President claimed in the statement that he has always placed a priority on teaching his children how to be relevant in whatever situation they find themselves. He also reportedly told his female children that they cannot get married until they have earned a first degree.
Going down memory lane, Buhari recalled telling his children that their real wealth is not what they have acquired in life, but what is in their heads after being released from prison in December 1988.
In order to combat poverty and prepare for the demands of the twenty-first century, he advised the youth to pursue education rather than apply for unfilled government jobs.
The President argued that more time should be spent preparing the next generation of leaders with a foundational understanding of moral principles because the world is changing quickly and will become more demanding as a result of new technology.
He pleaded with parents to instil in their kids the right morals, such as abiding reverence for God, deference to established authorities, and leading meaningful lives through ongoing education.
“After leading the nation, I was imprisoned for more than three years. At that point, I came to the realisation that your true wealth is not what you have acquired in life, but what you have in your mind, and I told my children as a result, according to Buhari.
“Training the kids to be relevant in any situation has always been my main priority. I explained to my kids—especially the girls—that they can only get married after receiving their bachelor’s degree.
They are already aware that I am not leaving anything behind for anyone to inherit. Making sure the kids get a good education is my greatest gift to them, he continued.
Because they would struggle to be patriotic, responsible, and respectful without a thorough understanding of their backgrounds, the President noted that younger children should be guided and taught history.
He said: “Anyone who lacks a solid understanding of history will be susceptible to errors.
“We must make sure the kids receive a quality education. They shouldn’t use the knowledge they learn to apply for government jobs. The government no longer employs us. Governments are getting smaller, more nimble, and more efficient thanks to technology.
“The emphasis should now be on developing skills and competence in technology creation and application. We requested that everyone from level 12 on down stay at home during the COVID-19, and surprisingly, the systems were efficient.
The president assured the emir that he would pay more frequent visits as he gets ready to step down from office in May 2023, explaining that his extended absence was caused by the demands of his job.
“I’ve never been away from home this long. In fact, the Emir addressed the crowd in front of the prayer area and declared in the open, “I haven’t been to Daura in almost a year.
Especially the public servants, he claimed that all Nigerians must make sacrifices to advance the nation, and he urged greater altruism and inclusivity.
He declared, “In the end, only God can reward your efforts; man cannot.”
In his remarks, Governor Aminu Bello Masari listed the President’s accomplishments, including the creation of social security, which was designed to help the underprivileged and guarantee that they received some money at the end of each month.
No administration in the history of this nation has worked harder to combat poverty than President Buhari’s. The Social Investment Program, SIP, which provides a monthly payment of N5,000 to 120,000 low-income residents in 12 Local Government Areas of the state, is one such successful government programme that he urged religious and community leaders to spread awareness of. This is true of all the states.
“As of right now, the school feeding programme serves food to over 863,000 kids in the state. In addition to 14,000 young men and women enrolled in N-Power, this has produced 10,000 jobs for women cooks.
“We have active food vendors who are supporting themselves. The only people who post foolish things on social media are those who only have themselves in mind. Until something fills their pockets, our elites are never content or grateful, the speaker claimed.
Masari remarked that security in the nation had significantly improved since the President took office. He reminded the Daura Emirate Council, title holders, state political leaders, and the people of the entire federation to remember the bombings of mosques and churches prior to 2015 that had hampered worship, issues that he explained are no longer a problem.
“People forget things easily. While it is true that we have not yet arrived where we desire, efforts are being made to make things better. If you compare the size of our security to the population, you’ll see that everyone must contribute to keeping the country secure, he continued.
The Emir thanked the President for the state’s institutional and infrastructure improvements, saying future generations would remember and be grateful to him.
Dr. Faruk urged the President to be more patient and tolerant as the clock started to run out, knowing that God would be the ultimate reward for all of his sacrifice.
“Every Nigerian, good and bad, knows you’re trying your hardest. You will encounter both those who like and dislike you in life. They won’t all like you equally if you have numerous wives or kids.
“Some are mocking your efforts right now and insulting you. Be at ease. The following president will suffer the same fate.
“Keep up the good work, and as a leader, keep your patience. Even the blind people in Daura, or the leader of all the blind people, are aware of the significant impact you have had. The Emir said, “We are grateful to you and proud of you.
