In Yobe State, a fatal road accident claimed the lives of seven commuters and injured thirteen others.

The incident, which occurred on the Buni Gari-Gulani highway, was said to be the result of excessive speeding and risky overtaking.

According to Dr. Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, who confirmed the incident, the agency mobilized its personnel to the scene after receiving a distress call about the incident, where the victims were evacuated to hospital.

“Unfortunately, seven people died, one was discharged, and 13 others are receiving free treatment at a government-owned hospital.”

“The victims are mostly 14-year-olds,” he said.

Goje went on to say that while they were being cared for, the State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, visited the Accident and Emergency Unit of Yobe State Specialist Hospital Damaturu to sympathize with the victims and offered cash donations to all patients admitted to the hospital.
