2023: Funke Akindele suspends acting career to accept PDP deputy governorship nomination
Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa in Nollywood, has confirmed her nomination as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) deputy gubernatorial candidate.
Akindele revealed in a video posted on Tuesday on her Instagram page that she would be putting her acting career on hold and entering politics in order to effect change and improve the lives of Lagosians.
She urged youths to rally behind her and governorship candidate Dr Olajide Adediran, also known as Jendor, in order to make Lagos a better place.
“I am a Lagosian born in Ikorodu, so when the PDP gubernatorial candidate asked me to be his deputy governor, I saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and improve the welfare of our people, particularly the deprived youth, women, and girl child.”
“My decision is not only to accept this enormous responsibility to see our dear Lagos live up to its full potential, with the people as its immediate beneficiaries.”

“Over the years, many youths have been ignored and victimised for daring to dream, so I take this opportunity to address all well-meaning citizens of the country, particularly the youths.” It is indeed time to capitalise on our numerical superiority, as well as to band together and support one another.
“I’m not unaware of the cost of this assignment on my vibrant career, which I must now put on hold; it’s a huge personal sacrifice, but my resolve is that no sacrifice is too great for the realisation of the urgent mission to rescue our people and dear state.”
“I take this call with reverence and a deep sense of responsibility.” Indeed, we can create a Lagos for all of our residents.”
