The North-West leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have demanded the position of vice president ahead of the July 15 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political parties to substitute candidates where necessary.
Against this backdrop, regional party leaders have decided to engage the party’s presidential candidate, Senator Bola Tinubu, to express their views.
The North-West leaders are speaking out for the first time since the party’s special convention, which produced Tinubu, to demand the position.
The North-West APC leaders’ position was contained in a statement issued by the APC National Vice-Chairman (North-West), Dr. Salihu Lukman, following their meeting on Thursday in Kaduna.
According to the statement, party leaders from the region attending the Kaduna meeting included APC governors, gubernatorial candidates, and ministers from the North-West region.

“The meeting noted the contribution of the North-West to the emergence and growth of the APC, as well as its electoral viability, with the North-West providing approximately 39 percent of the votes recorded by the APC in the 2019 and 2015 presidential elections,” it said.
“As a result, the zone resolved to pool its interests and vital concerns and engage accordingly with the party’s presidential candidate.”
The leaders acknowledged the difficulties faced by some state chapters of the party and resolved to make reconciliation efforts a top priority.
