The Edo Police Command reported that on Sunday, its officers killed two suspected armed robbers and found weapons in Benin.
The command’s deputy spokeswoman, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, stated this in a news release.
Iwegbu claimed that the suspects were armed robbers who participated in the early-Sunday attack on Benin’s Rubec Oil and Gas Station off Murtala Mohammed Way.
After learning of the situation, the Commander of the Police Crack Team “immediately mobilised a team of police operatives and vigilantes to the scene.”
Later, the armed robbers were successfully pursued to another area where they were conducting another armed robbery operation.
“The armed robbers opened fire on the group of security personnel when they spotted them, sparking a gunfight.”
While doing so, two of the armed robbers were hit by the security personnel’s superior firepower, while the others managed to escape with varying degrees of bullet wounds.
The doctor at Benin City’s Police Cottage Hospital later pronounced the two alleged armed robbers dead, and their bodies were then taken to the mortuary, according to the woman.
A local pistol and three live rounds, according to the police spokesperson, were found.
According to her, Mr. Abutu Yaro, the Edo Police Commissioner, has ordered that more efforts be made to apprehend and prosecute the robbery gang members who are evading capture.
The commissioner reaffirmed his unflinching dedication to lowering criminal activity in the state.
He requested immediate public knowledge about criminals’ whereabouts.
