T4 Education, an education development organisation, has begun reviewing bids for the World’s Best School Prizes to pick winners.
The organisation named Best Intellectuals Model School, an Aba-based school, as one of the ten schools shortlisted for a $250,000 star prize.
T4 Education is launching the World’s Best School Prizes in collaboration with five other organisations, including Templeton World Charity Foundation, Accenture, and American Express.
The programme, which was launched in 2022, aimed to honour educational institutions that played a critical role in the development of the next generation of learners and contributed to society’s progress, particularly in the aftermath of COVID-19.
Vikas Pota, the founder of T4 Education and the World’s Best School Prizes, commended the shortlisted school, emphasising that the programme began as a grassroot solution to assist establish needed systemic change in the education sector.
“With over 1.5 billion students impacted by school and university closures, COVID has compounded a worldwide education crisis in which the UN had already warned that progress was too sluggish to deliver universal quality education by 2030, even before the pandemic.”
“By sharing the tales of inspiring schools that are changing the lives of their kids and making a meaningful difference in their communities, schools can exchange best practises and have their voices heard at the top table to help transform education.” Educators all across the world will now be able to learn from this remarkable Nigerian institution.”
Best Intellectuals Model School, he claims, was chosen for its musical video, which was created to promote student morale amid a time of turbulence in Nigerian culture.
Schools were recognised in five categories: community collaboration, environmental action, innovation, overcoming adversity, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The winners in each of the five categories will be announced in October 2022 during World Education Week, with a prize pool of $250,000 split equally among the winners, with each getting a $50,000 prize.
