At least 11 people were reported killed in an early morning attack on Igama earlier on Sunday.
According to some villagers who spoke with our correspondent on the phone, the latest attack on Effeche was still going on at 9:30 p.m.

According to witnesses, the assailants stormed the Igama community around 4 a.m. on Sunday and opened fire on the residents.

They allegedly set fire to almost every building in the area.

While searching for missing people, the villagers claimed that at least 11 bodies had been discovered.

Amina Audu, the Chairman of Okpokwu LGA, told reporters that she had received three corpses at the local government headquarters in Okpoga, and that six corpses were being transported from Igama, one of the affected villages.

The invaders were active in the community between 4 and 6 a.m., according to Audu, and they burned down all of the homes.

The victims were all teenagers, according to the chairman, while the elderly and women were allowed to flee.

“Right now, I’m at the Okpoga police station awaiting the bodies; soldiers and other security personnel are with me,” she said.

SP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, confirmed the incident when contacted.

“The incident has been confirmed,” she said in a text message, “but the command has yet to receive details from officers who responded to the scene.”
