Kandigu Kadi, a Congolese living in Nigeria, and Makowulu Anthony, a Nigerian, were arrested by NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos’ NAHCO and SAHCO export sheds for attempting to export controlled and illicit drugs to the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates.
Kandigu was arrested on May 31st at the NAHCO export shed for attempting to export 2.1 kilogrammes of pentazocine injection, and Makowulu was arrested on June 3 in connection with an attempt to export parcels of cannabis sativa concealed in cereal packs to Dubai, UAE through the SAHCO cargo shed, according to a statement released by the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi.
According to Babafemi, investigations revealed that the pentazocine shipment was headed to Kinshasa, Congo, while a package containing 200 bottles of pentazocine injection intercepted at the airport a week earlier was headed to the United States.
Makowulu was apprehended with eight parcels of cannabis weighing 2.9 kilogrammes hidden in Nutribom Cereals cartons, among other natural packs of the cereal, as part of a consolidated cargo meant for different people in Dubai, according to him.
Anti-narcotic officers in Edo intercepted 10,280 tramadol tablets, 2000 diazepam tablets, 300 Swinol tablets, 5000 Axol tablets, and 10 bottles of codeine based syrup in the Irrua area of the state.
The Edo officers also destroyed 5.3 hectares of cannabis farm in Oke forest, Ovia North East local government area, as part of their efforts to disrupt all cannabis planting activities for the season in the state, according to the statement.
“NDLEA operatives raided Tsohuwar Kasuwa area of Potiskum town last Friday, where they arrested a notorious drug dealer, Usman Alhaji a.k.a NEPA, and recovered 22 blocks of cannabis sativa from him,” the statement continued.
Babafemi went on to say that in the last week, no fewer than 39 suspects have been arrested in drug raids across the Federal Capital Territory, with various quantities of illicit drugs recovered.
Apo Mechanic (Cashew forest), Apo NEPA, Tora Bora, Gishiri junction, Jabi park, Jabi forest, Jabi Gidan Bola, Deidei area, Rugga area, City Gate, Sabon Lugbe, Basa village, and Airport road were among the areas raided between June 4 and June 11.
The raid, which continued across Abuja, was a joint operation between the Agency’s FCT Command and the Chairman Monitoring Special Task Force to rid the capital territory of drug dealers and peddlers, according to Babafemi.
Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, praised the officers and men of the MMIA, Edo, Yobe, and FCT Commands, as well as the C-MSTF, for their bravery in the face of the arrests. He did, however, charge them, as well as others across all commands, to remain vigilant and committed to the common goal of ridding Nigeria of the drug scourge.
