Three All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for governor in the state have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Achida.
On Sunday, the defections were welcomed in Sokoto State by Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate.
Yusuf Suleiman, a former minister of sports, Alhaji Abubakar Gumbi, and Balarabe Salame, a current congressman, were named as the gubernatorial contenders who switched to the PDP.
Additionally, there are Rep. Yusuf Kurdula, Sen. Bello Gada, a state legislator, Murtala Maigona, a national commissioner for the Public Complaints Commission, and Sen. Jibril Gada.
Upon meeting the defectors, Okowa declared that the PDP was making wise efforts to rescue Nigeria from its current insecurity-related problems.
Atiku Abubakar has the skills and knowledge, he continued, to address the many problems facing the nation.
He declared, “Atiku is the man to take Nigeria out of its current stage, as a result our country of tomorrow needs everyone in the PDP’s struggle.”
The acceptance of the defectors to the PDP in Sokoto State, according to Governor Aminu Tambuwal, has been a source of joy.
“Today, you are all going back home. I’m glad that everyone in this room is content with and convinced of the PDP’s leadership in Sokoto and Nigeria, he said.
According to Tambuwal, Atiku and Okowa are genuine nationalists who are passionate about the success of Nigeria. They together will provide the country with the effective leadership it needs.
