In a move widely applauded as a victory for competence and professionalism, Chukwuma Charles Soludo has appointed Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Anambra State, ending a 20-year period during which no Senior Advocate of Nigeria held the office.

The appointment, announced on March 23, 2026, marks a significant milestone in the state’s legal and governance structure. The last Senior Advocate of Nigeria to serve as Attorney General in Anambra State was Nnoruka Udechukwu, SAN, who served during the administration of former governor Chris Ngige between 2003 and 2006.

Investigator news reports that Nweke,a native of Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government Area, has built a reputation as one of the brightest legal minds of his generation.

At just 39 years old, he was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in September 2024, making him the youngest SAN from Anambra State and among the youngest in Nigeria.

Before his appointment as Attorney General, Nweke served as Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Legal Matters, a position he held since 2022.

During this period, he played a key role in shaping legal reforms and providing strategic legal guidance to the administration.

Nweke’s professional profile reflects a blend of local expertise and global exposure. He recently completed specialized courses at Harvard University in Contract Law in 2026 and at University of Oxford in Project Risk Management in 2025.

He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom, attaining the prestigious FCIArb status in 2023.

An alumnus of University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Nweke also holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. His rapid rise in the legal profession saw him move from a National Youth Service Corps member to Managing Solicitor at the reputable law firm of Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu SAN & Co. within four years, where he handled several landmark cases.

The appointment has generated excitement across Anambra State, with legal practitioners, stakeholders, and citizens commending Governor Soludo for prioritizing merit and professional excellence in such a sensitive office.

Observers say the development signals a renewed commitment to intellectual leadership and strong legal governance, positioning Anambra State for improved legal representation and policy formulation under the leadership of one of Nigeria’s rising legal stars.
